04-20-2026: Moderni; The James Perse debut store on Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, designed by Standard Architecture (Jeffrey Allsbrook), established a “low-maintenance high-fashion” aesthetic blending California casual with luxury. Opened in 2003, it features a warm, minimalist design with  concrete floor, oak accents, and a 30-foot sliding glass door connecting to a bamboo gardenSearch for Ideas!

PROJECT IDEAS

The project sets a standard of “low-maintenance high fashion” through a, California-casual, residential aesthetic. PROJECT SPECS

Materials: A contrast of light maple furniture on concrete floors (men’s) and white lacquered displays on oak floors (women’s); Lighting: Existing ceilings were sandblasted and a soffit was suspended to unify the space. Skylights were reglazed with white glass to diffuse California light, with new ones added to wash walls; Structural Elements: The ceiling was sandblasted and a soffit suspended; Storefront: The, Melrose store featured a stucco building facade.
