Layered Indoor-Outdoor Living utilizes large motorized sliding doors to create a seamless connection from the front yard to the back view, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. The roof top replicates the 2,000-square-foot roof terrace and bridge that connects two wings of the house, allowing for dramatic outdoor entertaining spaces. Subterranean Wellness Center creeates a hidden lower level featuring a theater, wellness center, steam room, and sauna, as seen in the 1520 Carla Ridge project. Cascading Water Elements implements a 25-meter infinity pool (or lap pool) designed to connect the home to the surrounding topography. PROJECT SPECS
Structure: Engineered for dramatic, long-spanning cantilevers, including a subterranean level for a theater and gym. The design connects two levels via a glass bridge and a double-height staircase; Materials: Red cedar exterior siding and interior ceiling, oak handrail, and a minimalist, warm palette featuring extensive use of concrete (often exposed), honed limestone, travertine, and rich brown walnut wood to add warmth; Key Details: Features hundreds of feet of sliding glass doors to eliminate boundaries between inside and out, plus a cascading pool with dark stone finishes; Landscape Integration: Designed by Hocker Design to maximize outdoor rooms using water, stone, and a central olive tree, creating a “soft” nesting of the structure into the site.
